Some teachers shun Lempu Salajwe primary
10 Mar 2014
Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Patrick Masimolole has told Parliament that the ministry is aware that there are some teachers who are reluctant to work at Lempu Junior Secondary School and Salajwe Primary School.
He said continuous efforts were being made to fill vacancies turned down by candidates who rejected offers to serve in the two schools. Teachers already in these areas were not subjected to compete for higher positions with those in other areas within the region as a way of providing incentives for them, he said.
Mr Masimolole said teachers in these areas were assisted with transport to major centres on a monthly basis. The Kweneng District Council, he said, had been engaged by the regional office to improve the condition of the road and that as a result, the road was being graded on a monthly basis.
He was responding to a question from the Letlhakeng West MP, Ngaka Ngaka who had asked the minister if he was aware that teachers were reluctant to be stationed at Lempu Junior Secondary and Salajwe Primary Schools because of the bad condition of the gravel road from Letlhakeng to Salajwe.
MP Ngaka also wanted to know what efforts were being made to address the situation and whether the ministry had discussed the issue with other relevant ministries and the resolutions made. ENDS
