Council use bill board to promote services

10 Mar 2014

Serowe Sub-district Council has installed an electronic billboard in Serowe main mall as a way of disseminating information to the public regarding its services.

Speaking in an interview, senior public relations officer, Mr Keothaile Tau said the bill board had two components which showed words and on the other side videos.

He said the information that would be advertised would be functions, subtitles and services offered at the council adding that they were going to inform the public about services that were at the council through the bill board.

Mr Tau said the bill board would help those who could not hear and read to be able to see the information and to help the public to have knowledge about the services offered at the council before they could approach their offices.

“Not everyone has access to radio, other people cannot read newspapers and other people spend time at the mall so as they pass around they will have a look on it,” he said.

He said the bill board was not meant for only a short period of time but they hope to make it a thing of a life time as they would keep on updating it with relevant information. The project of the bill board has cost more than half million Pula.

He said the bill board has been located only in Serowe among all other sub districts in central region and that it was their plan to install other bill boards in other sub district in future after they see its progress.

Mr Tau said they would disseminate council information for now only until they have come up with advertising policies and guidelines that would allow the public, other government and private institutions to advertise.

He said what they would advertise would depend upon the terms and conditions of the advertisement. He said the bill board was going to operate 24 hours as it would help those who could not get access of the information in the afternoon.

“It wouldn’t be cost effective if we switch it off at 4.30pm because those are busy times when there is a lot of movement of people in the mall,” Mr Tau highlighted. The bill board which was not yet completed would be finished in a few months to come. Ends
