President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama has commended Phaphane Primary School teachers for a job well done after their school scoped position one in the Primary School Leaving Examinations results in Kgatleng District.
He praised the teachers for working beyond the normal eight hours a day schedule to make sure that their pupils were well prepared for the examinations. “You must be commended for putting the interests of the pupils first,” said President Khama.
He was addressing the teachers on Thursday, March 6 at a handover ceremony of footballs and netballs to Phaphane Primary School.
President Khama thanked teachers for their commitment, which he said was reminiscent of the good old days when teaching was about passion and volunteerism.
“The future of these children is in your hands and you are doing a good job of securing that future. I urge all other teachers throughout the country to emulate Paphane Primary School teachers and also improve their school grades,” said President Khama.
He urged the school head, Ms Cathrine Selemogo to share with the nation how she managed to achieve such sterling results.
In response, Ms Selemogo said the school’s achievements were a result of the teachers’ commitment to their work. She said her staff did not bother about sticking to the set eight working hours, but worked hard to teach their pupils even during weekends and public holidays.
“We also meet regularly to discuss the syllabus and strategise on how we are going to teach students effectively. We tell our students exactly what we expect of them, and they know what they should do to pass,” she said.
She added that teachers also worked hand in hand with parents, most of whom were youth. She further said parents regularly attended Parents Teachers Association meetings, which were usually held over the weekend. Ends
