Tutume Sub-district Council approves budget
09 Mar 2014
The budget for the Tutume Sub-district of over P100 million for the 2014/15 financial year has been approved.
According to the sub-council chairperson, Mr Phillip Makale, in his opening remarks, the council had been allocated P102 001 540. Cllr Makale said at face value, it showed an increase of 11.3 per cent compared to the previous year’s budget.
He noted that the projected income was P3 182 510 compared to the previous year’s P3 367 750 and pointed out that the bulk of the increase in budget would only go to the maintenance of council facilities and terminal benefits for councillors at a total of P15 246 980. Cllr Makale therefore said this would leave the sub-district with only P86 754 560 to cater for the remaining recurrent accounts votes.
He highlighted that they would have to be careful in the manner in which they go about setting their priorities. Cllr Makale said they would have to concentrate on those projects and programmes with a high impact on the lives of the community, adding that they would have to do more with less.
He noted that it would be a short year as their mandates would come to an end sometime this year. “This is a year when we should pause and reflect on the progress made to our electorates and promises that we made when we sought office in the past election,” he added.
Cllr Makale said it was the time for them to retrace their steps and see not only where they might have gone wrong but also reinforce the positive behaviors that contributed to their success. Ends
