Parents appreciate reception programme
09 Mar 2014
Parents have shown interest and appreciation for the newly introduced reception classes programme.
The initiative was to groom and prepare young children before they doing their first grade (standard 1). Speaking in an interview recently, the chief education officer for Jwaneng/Mabutsane, Mr David Rabana said in the Jwaneng/Mabutsane catchment area, reception classes were piloted in Kgalagadi, Sekoma, Mokhomma and Kokong primary schools.
He noted that for Kgalagadi Primary School in Jwaneng, the programme was so well received so much that the enrolment even exceeded the target.
“Initially we were supposed to have 30 pupils but due to the fact that parents have shown much interest in the initiative and hence bring children in large numbers we have decided to enroll two classes comprising 30 pupils each”, he said.
He said Kokong, Sekoma and Mokhomma primary schools received 30, 19 and 15 pupils respectively. Mr Rabana noted that they had deployed well qualified teachers and teacher assistants to each class to ensure the success of the programme.
He explained that upon completion, parents had the liberty to take their children to any school of their choice to start Standard One. He urged parents to come forth and register their children so that they could benefit free of charge.
This way, he noted, Botswana would be able to attain its 2016 pillar of an educated and informed nation. Ends
