It is harvest time in Okavango
06 Mar 2014
Farmers in the Okavango Sub-district are already harvesting and selling their crops.
One of the farmers in Etsha 4 Ms Ohepo Disho said in an interview on March 5 that they had harvested more than previous years. Ms Disho said she planted water melons and sweet reeds in November.
Another farmer, Ms Maria Thidhimbo also from the same village, said in a day she was able to make about P500 from selling the harvest.
The farmers said they to sell in Gumare because they realised that the market was saturated in Etsha with other farmers already selling their harvest. Gumare Primary School has offered to buy about 100 water melons.
Both farmers said they had brought over 200 water melons and were happy that people were buying in large numbers. One of the customers, Ms Amantle Tembo who bought two water melons said abundant rains had favoured their district and hence the early harvest.
She said water melons and other organic vegetables were good for the body and encouraged people to eat them. ENDS
