Rentse Foundation launches
05 Mar 2014
In any society there are always those who are good hearted and always willing to help the less fortunate.
Such good Samaritans will always try to find a solution to a particular problem, probably inspired by what they have seen happening or what they have experienced in their lives.
One such example is Ms Rentse Maganu-Ugokwe who, on Saturday, March 1, launched a foundation whose mandate is to look after the elderly.
Dubbed the Rentse Foundation, its responsibility is to build houses for the elderly who were left caring for young children whose parents had succumbed to HIV/AIDS.
The Rentse Foundation has been in operation since 2011 and was successfully registered with the secretary of state in California USA where it has been operational. Speaking at the launch, the founder, Ms Maganu-Ugokwe said so far they have built houses in Palapye and Lephephe.
The foundation has also already identified an elderly woman in Gaborone who lives with her grandchildren in a dilapidated building. Ms Ugokwe-Maganu said the foundation would also form a social networking system that would visit the elderly they have built houses for to ensure that their basic needs were met.
The idea of the foundation came about because of how she survived harsh conditions after losing her father at the age of eight. The foundation aims to improve the standard of living of communities through the empowerment of the elderly. ENDS
