Findings from school inspections not ready
04 Mar 2014
The recent schools inspections by ministers and permanent secretaries were a reflection of government’s commitment to ensuring effective service delivery now and in the future.
The Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi said this when responding to a question in Parliament on March 3.
He said the exercise came about after cabinet had resolved to undertake inspections of various government facilities, beginning with secondary schools to get a ‘snapshot’ overview of the facilities’ current status, while looking into areas of potential improvement.
The initiative, Mr Masisi said, arose in the context of feedback received during cabinet meetings with various councils, kgotla meetings and other public consultations attended by President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama and other members of cabinet.
Minister Masisi told the house that it would be premature for him to divulge findings at the current stage as the process was still ongoing adding that its findings should in the first instance be submitted to President Khama. Any interventions, he said, would be determined by the findings.
The minister was responding to a question from the Member of Parliament for Kanye North, Mr Kentse Rammidi who had wanted to know the mission and objectives of the recent exercise carried out by ministers and permanent secretaries sanctioned by President Khama to visit schools around the country.
He also asked about the findings of the exercise and the form of interventions the nation should expect after such an exercise to help improve results in schools. ENDS
