Absence affects delivery
11 Feb 2013
Public servants in Palapye had been implored to adhere to working times and avoid coming late to work.
Addressing employees during the sub District Development Committe (sub-DDC) meeting, Palapye deputy district commissioner, Ms Veronica Rabakane said some employees spent long hours absent from their offices doing private errands during working hours, saying such behaviour affected customer service and delivery.
She said employees should better their attitude towards customers, adding that some responses and choice of words by some officers were unacceptable.
She said absconding from work affected service delivery in that switchboards and toll free numbers ring unanswered and help desks were also left unattended to for long hours.
She revealed that the recent customer satisfaction survey conducted with government departments indicated that 27 per cent of customers were happy, adding ‘the question is what happened to the remaining 73 per cent?’
Furthermore, Ms Rabakane implored all departments and parastatal organisations to attend sub-DDC meetings, saying disciplinary action would be taken against departments that fail to attend such meetings.
She said parastatals were service entities, therefore must account to the district commissioner. Regarding poverty eradication initiatives, she said funds were not utilised to assist people affected by poverty.
She implored relevant departments to ensure that poverty eradication initiatives took off. She also said the Economic Diversification Drive (EDD) must be implemented and that guidelines should be followed. ENDS
