Jwaneng council re-tenders for fire engine
03 Mar 2014
Jwaneng Town Council (JTC) has ordered a re-tendering for the procurement of the council’s fire engine.
The re-tendering came after the initial tender failed to pass due to incorrect specifications. The council was last year given permission by the ministry to procure a new fire engine with the 2010/11 General Fund after it came to light that the current fire engines were old.
The fire engines, which were bought in 1994 and 1996 respectively, were reportedly experiencing frequent breakdowns.
Addressing a full council meeting recently, the acting mayor, Mr Tsietsi Oodira-Kwenje said the first tender did not include all the required specifications, and therefore a re-tender will be advertised beginning of March.
“Due to the complex nature of the specifications of this type of vehicle, progress has been slow. The tender will be advertised beginning of March 2014 as a re-tender was instituted in an effort to encompass all the specifications and requirements of this special unit,” he explained.
Commenting on the acting mayor’s remarks, Jwaneng Town Clerk Mr Dick Kalantle said the cost of a fire engine was high and therefore it was necessary to indicate correct specifications.
On other issues, Mr Oodira-Kwenje informed the meeting that the much awaited Amusement park was 90 per cent complete.
Even though the project was behind schedule due to problems encountered with previous contractors, the acting mayor noted that the current contractor has almost completed the project.
“The landscaping component is also complete although it was initially delayed, the contractor had therefore applied for extension of time in order to complete and hand over the project,” he said. ENDS
