BEC records high demand for certificates amid job openings

16 Sep 2026

Following recent job opportunities advertised by government and other stakeholders, the Botswana Examinations Council (BEC) has recorded a high demand for academic certificates.

As such, BEC has urged certificate owners and parents to collect certificates for the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE), Junior Certificate (JC) and Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE) on time.

BEC Head of Corporate Communications, Ms Fingile Makgalemela said many people only collected their certificates when they needed them, particularly when responding to job opportunities.

“Usually, we experience an influx when there are job adverts, especially from government and other organisations,” she said.

She said certificates were sent to schools where candidates sat for their examinations and kept there for two years before being returned to BEC for safe keeping.

She urged candidates to collect their certificates as soon as they completed their examinations, noting that the documents were important as they open opportunities for further education and employment.

Ms Makgalemela said candidates, who had never collected their certificates, could do so by providing their names and examination year, together with a certified copy of the required identification documents.

She said those who had lost their certificates must provide proof of identity and supporting documents, including an affidavit from the school, and pay a replacement fee of P250. ENDS
