Biblionef donates to education ministry
02 Mar 2014
The donation of books by Biblionef will help the Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD), Education Hub coordinator, Dr Lucky Moahi has said.
Biblionef donated 4 807 books valued at P240 000 to the education ministry on February 28. Receiving the books, Dr Moahi said the donation came at the right time since different school libraries were faced with shortage of reading materials.
He said reading was a problem among lower primary school classes since most of the pupils did not undergo pre-schooling. He was hopeful that the books would foster a culture of reading and breakthrough in both languages amongst pupils.
He also noted that the donation was part of the Adopt-a-School initiative, saying some organisations adopted individual schools while some assisted at the ministry level.
He said the Adopt-aSchool initiative was meant to establish relationships with stakeholders, and not only a give and take scenario. He thanked Biblionef for their effort on behalf of the ministry.
The deputy permanent secretary for Tertiary Education in the education ministry, Mr Mogotsi Kewagamang said the donation would help in improving the standard of education in the recipient schools. Biblionef representative, Ms Jean Williams said their organisation was involved in a world-wide programme of donating books to different countries.
She said they were donating new books, 80 per cent of which were in the local Setswana language for the enjoyment of pupils as well as something that pupils could easily relate to. ENDS
