Mutual and Federal insures livestock
11 Feb 2013
Mutual and Federal Botswana has announced the introduction of livestock insurance.
The company's managing director, Mr Jack Bekker made the announcement at the launch and opening of their second office in Francistown on February 6.
He explained that insurance was for transit livestock within the country, when animals were transported to the market or being imported into the country.
Mr Bekker said his company decided in 2009 to open a branch in Francistown as a way of increasing its footprint in the north of the country.
This, he noted, was being influenced by among other factors, the positive growth seen in the region over the past few years, especially in tourism, agriculture and the mining industry.
“At the time, Mutual and Federal was not present in Francistown, nor did we have a single client from the area on our books, but today I am proud to report that we have made significant inroads in this market as it already contributes close to 20 per cent of our Botswana business,” he said.
In addition, the company had observed that public education on the importance of insurance was needed and therefore planned on reaching out to the market to sensitise people about it.
He added that his company would also be offering insurance for imported vehicles. He also said his company planned on expanding towards Maun where business prospects were good owing to the tourism industry in the area. ENDS
