Four locks horns in football spectacular

Some football clashes do not need introduction.
They arrive with historic memories as long-standing iconic rivalries full of joy and heartbreak, as they produce unpredicted scorelines and memorable performance from some individual players.
Such fixtures involve historic clashes between local clubs; Mochudi Centre Chiefs and Township Rollers as well as the one between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates in neighbouring South Africa.
From days gone by, the thrill of Centre Chiefs versus Rollers clash or the Soweto blockbuster derby of Pirates and Chiefs always captured the imagination of every football fanatic across the country and the buzz of excitement that permeated the air.
The rivalry between Chiefs and Rollers is renowned for sparking a legacy of intense competition over the years while the Chiefs and Pirates enmity is the biggest and most fiercely contested fixture in South African football, collectively known as the Soweto Derby.
Originating from Johannesburg's historic Soweto Township, this iconic clash divides families and unites millions of fans across the region.
Come June 20, this historic football feuds will be reignited at the National Stadium, where former players of the four clubs will once again wear their jerseys to relive a historic rivalry.
The much-anticipated clashes between the quartet of old-time foes is expected to ignite the yesteryear spark, though this nostalgic exhibition is this time around designed for charity and bragging rights.
Dubbed Clash of Legends and in its fourth-year offing, this year's event is poised to be a memorable showdown having pitted iconic legends from Centre Chiefs and Rollers in the first semifinal fixture, while the visitors, Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs legends will battle it out in the second semifinal.
On offer, will be a star-studded exhibition of football that has brought back iconic retired players to reignite the fame of the clubs and rivalry for a good cause.
The event will allow spectators to once again see their beloved icons among others Pontsho Moloi, Reneiloe Letsholonyane, Mogogi Gabonamong and Lucky Lekgwathi lace up their boots and don their team colours again for a humanitarian course.
The Clash of Legends has evolved into a platform focused on preserving football heritage and restoring dignity of retired players, who once carried the hopes of supporters across the country and the region.
One of the tournament organisers, Sekhana Koko, has during the launch of the tournament recently, indicated that the Clash of Legends was more than a reunion match for retired footballers as its proceeds provided direct assistance to former players in need.
“Funds generated through ticket sales, sponsorships and other tournament activities are to be contributed toward cushioning retired footballers from the daily economic hardships.”
This year’s edition is sponsored by online betting company, Betway Botswana to the tune of P1.5 million. ENDS
