First Capital Bank has sponsored Gaborone-based Lions Cricket Club P80,000 to support the development of cricket and promote participation in sport.
The bank’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Lesego Osman, said the sponsorship was more than a corporate contribution, describing it as a strategic partnership aimed at supporting community and sports development.
Osman said sport had the ability to bring people together, promote community integration and create a positive impact in society. He said supporting local sports clubs was particularly important for Botswana as the country continued to make its mark on the international sporting arena.
Osman said the sponsorship would also contribute to promoting active and healthy lifestyles through increased participation in sport.
Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) chief executive officer, Tebogo Ntesang, welcomed the partnership, saying it went beyond financial support to include the development of athletes, teams and the broader sporting community.
“We all know that sport is a very short profession. As athletes, you do not want to look back and feel that you did not receive the support you needed during your time in sport. I play for the national team, and I understand what it means to have people and organisations behind you,” she said.
Ntesang said the partnership would support athletes’ development while also contributing to the development of coaches and national cricket programmes. She said partnerships of this nature could increase the number and capacity of technical officials, including umpires and coaches. ENDS
