IHS have standardised fixed rates fee
26 Feb 2014
Parliament has been informed that all Institutes of Health Sciences (IHS) including Lobatse one have a standardised fixed rate fee structure.
Answering a question in Parliament on Tuesday, February 25 the Assistant Minister of Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Gaotlhaetse Matlhabaphiri said the Ministry of Health in consultation with stakeholders and tertiary institutions implemented a revised fee structure.
He said the revision was necessitated by factors such as the restructuring of IHS programmes from year-long subject system to a semester system.
Regarding the fees, Mr Matlhabaphiri said local students pay tuition (P4 200) book fee (depends on the book of choice), clinical fee (P55), accommodation (P3 500), refectory (P6 000) and laundry fees (P350) every semester.
Other fees, he said, included uniform, clinical fee and identity card fee which are not paid every semester and a year has two semesters.
He told the House that recognising that the students might have challenges in paying the entire amount upfront; students were given the choice of paying the semester fee in installments within that semester based on an agreed payment plan between the student and the institute.
The Member of Parliament for Lobatse, Mr Nehemiah Modubule had asked the minister whether the HIS in Lobatse has fixed rate fee structure and if so he wanted to know how it operates. ENDS
