Masisi explains appointment criteria

Parliament has been informed that there are criteria used to appoint special constables who have served for more than five years to full time constables. 

Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi said the criteria used included, amongst others, that the person is physically and mentally fit, aged between 18 and 30 years and have no criminal records.

The criteria also included that a person should have passed form five with a minimum of 28 points, with at least D or better in English, worked as a special constable for two or more years as well as recommendation from the station commanders under who they are serving.

Mr Masisi was answering a parliamentary question on behalf of the Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Dikgakgamatso Seretse. 

The Member of Parliament for Gaborone West South, Mr Botsalo Ntuane had asked the minister to state the criteria used to appoint special constables who had served for more than five years to full time constables. MP Ntuane had wanted the minister to state the length of time special constables are required to serve before being appointed to full time constables. Ends
