Ministry augments stipend for students
25 Feb 2014
Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD) augments stipend for students studying abroad under other scholarships obtained through government, including those in China.
Students were given additional funds on top of the sponsorship allowances given by the Chinese government, Parliament was told.
The Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Patrick Masimolole said this was the same for students in other countries such as Cuba, Russia and India and that the stipend was augmented as and when necessary.
He said the students in question already get allowances from their scholarships and that the ministry’s top up is meant to cover any shortfalls that might arise.
The assistant minister was responding to a question from the Member of Parliament for Lobatse, Mr Nehemiah Modubule who had asked the minister whether government was now augmenting stipends for students studying abroad, particularly those in China. Ends
