24 Feb 2014
Supporters of Mochudi Buffaloes and Prisons IX football clubs cheered jubilantly as their teams clashed during first division south encounter played at Buffaloes grounds on Saturday, February 22.
The fans had a taste of good football as Prisons IX won 2-0. Despite the game being delayed due to referees who came late due to transport logistics, both teams showed hunger to claim victory as the ball went from one side of the pitch to the other with numerous chances created but the finishing part remaining a headache.
It was Mochudi Buffaloes who could have buried their opponents with an avalanche of goals but luck seemed to have eluded them on the day as their efforts were fruitless.
So many chances were missed by the homeboys and that later cost them three points which could have seen them move up the log table.
Buffaloes’ woes began on the 26th minute when Prisons captain Tatenda Mbikiwa forced their defense to commit errors leading to a penalty being awarded to them which Mamikina Mayunga easily scored to put his team on the lead.
Nevertheless, Buffaloes were not disturbed by the goal as they put even more pressure on Prisons and their forwards of Puso Mangadi, John Ramoraka and Godwin Sekgaolo, gave Prisons’ defense a headache as they dismantled them on many occasions.
It can be concluded that it was not Buffaloes’ day, looking at the chances they missed which could have given them an edge over their opponents.
Prisons substitute Godfrey Joseph deepened the wounds of Buffaloes supporters as he chipped the ball over goalkeeper Maano Letsweletse who had left his posts unguarded in the last minute of fulltime.
Buffaloes Coach, Joel Bareetsi, said his team played very well but failure to convert their scoring opportunities has had an impact on their promotion race.
He said his middle field played according to plan as they managed to possess the centre of the pitch giving no room to Prisons but substituting two midfielders due to injury began to give room to their opponents. Coach Bareetsi said they have to work on their mistakes and prepare for the coming game against Masitaoka in Molepolole.
Prisons IX’s Coach Johannes Sekelenyane could not hide his smile as he knew he had pocketed important points to move closer to the top of the table.
He said his players took his instructions well and everything went according to plan even though he lamented injuries sustained by regular players which forced him to change the game plan. ENDS
