Cordon Fence Vandalism Worries Lotlaamoreng
17 Mar 2026
Kgosi Lotlamoreng II of Barolong has expressed disappointment over some individuals who continue to curtail efforts to curb the potential infiltration of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) into the country by vandalising the cordon fence.
He said despite threats posed by FMD to the country’s beef sector, some people vandalised the fence meant to control livestock movement.
He made the call on Saturday at a meeting addressed by the acting Minister of Lands and Agriculture, Dr Edwin Dikoloti. The meeting involved disciplined forces retirees who had pledge their support in the FMD fight.
Kgosi Lotlaamoreng II said FMD was not only a challenge for livestock farmers but also a nationwide problem.
He said it was disheartening that some residents, mostly from villages along the borderline were refusing to cooperate and follow protocols.
Dr Dikoloti applauded the members for their patriotism and said with their experience, the fight against FMD would be possible.
He said FMD and stock theft was real, hence the need for concerted efforts.
For their part, the retired officers were concerned that vandalism of the cordon fence was fuelled by illegal crossing at ungazetted points and cross-border crime.ENDS
