The Divisional Commander of the North, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) Theriso Thatayotlhe has applauded the women of the Botswana Police Services for their commendable act of generosity by donating to standard-one pupils at Shashemooke Primary School.
The donation which targeted 149 standard-one pupils, included underwear for both boys and girls, socks and face-cloths.
Speaking at the event organised by No.1 District Headquarters and PG Matante in Shashemooke on Tuesday, Senior Assistant Commissioner Thatayotlhe emphasised the vital role mothers play in children’s development.
He said that women, being natural nurturers, instinctively chose students as beneficiaries for their social initiative.
“Mothers possess an instinctive ability to identify areas of need and how they can provide assistance,” he underscored.
He expressed that the charitable deed would significantly contribute towards the well-being of future generations, whom he referred to as a gift to the nation.
“What these women have accomplished is remarkable, they have brought joy to children’s faces. Despite their demanding schedules, policewomen have demonstrated the crucial role mothers play in child development,” he further stated.
He also acknowledged the efforts of policewomen, particularly in this month dedicated to celebrating women, and expressed appreciation to the school administration for allowing the Botswana Police to bring happiness to their students through donations.
Shashemooke School Head, Ms Girlie David expressed her gratitude towards the Botswana Police women for their generous contributions.
She pointed out that Shashemooke Primary School faced various shortages, including chairs and stationery, making such acts of kindness from the police a true blessing.
Over the past 12 years, she shared that the school had consistently exceeded its target of 80 per cent pass rates, achieving an impressive 88 per cent in the latest results.
For her part, Assistant Superintendent Ruth Sechele from Borolong Police Post highlighted that they felt it was essential to give back to the community they serve.
She explained that the social responsibility initiative aimed to support education by fostering self-esteem among learners, which was crucial for academic progress.
Assistant Superintendent Sechele added that providing for young children serves as a positive example to society and reinforces the notion that ‘’blessed is the hand that gives’’.
Additionally, she mentioned that police women want to use the gesture to establish a lasting relationship with the school and promote social responsibility, emphasising that giving goes a long way. BOPA
