Shutdown festival organisers donate 300 waste bins

Organisers of the annual Shutdown Music Festival have given back to the community of Letlhakeng by donating 300 waste drums to keep the village tidy.
Speaking at the donation handover ceremony on January 21, Letlhakeng Deputy Council Secretary, Dr Delic Sehunwe expressed gratitude to the Shutdown Festival for recognising the importance of maintaining a clean environment and said their generous gesture would promote proper waste disposal, environmental protection, and sustainable living in the community.
Dr Sehunwe said the gesture was aligned to and supplemented the council’s mandate of properly managing waste.
‘Together, we are investing in a brighter, cleaner, and healthier environment - one in which every community member may live and thrive’
She stated that the event's theme:Towards A Clean Environment, served as a call to action for everyone to play a role in maintaining a clean and healthy environment for present and future generations.
Chairperson of the Letlhakeng District Council, Mr Gordon Mokgwathi, who highlighted that civic involvement was crucial in all communities, stated that through their gesture of donating dustbins, the organisers of Shutdown Music Festival promote a clean environment and proper sanitation.
He stated that the Shutdown Music Festival played an important role in the community of Letlhakeng, citing that it enhanced the village’s tourism and socio-economic standing.
One of the organisers, Ms Lucie Jacobs pledged that they would give back to the community each year after hosting the event.
Ms Jacobs stated that through the donation, they wanted to make Letlhakeng appealing to visitors and investors.
Principal community development officer, Mr Tiroyaone Rampe observed that a clean environment is a reflection of respect for God's creation. ENDS
