DOSET caters for community learning
19 Feb 2014
The Department of Out of School Education and Training (DOSET) centre in Kang is designed to cater for basic vocational education and skills development for out of school adults and youth.
Currently, the centre is used largely for community learning at village, regional and national levels, said the Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development (MoESD), Mr Patrick Masimolole in Parliament on February 18.
He said the centre was specifically accredited by Botswana Training Authority (BOTA) for the purpose of vocational education and skills development.
Mr Masimolole said Ba Isago University College had expressed interest to sublease the facilities, for purposes of providing education and skills development for both out of school learners and adults.
He said the ministry was working on a management plan and guidelines for outsourcing of the centre to both public and private sector agencies that were interested and met the set requirements.
Mr Masimolole was responding to questions asked by MP for Kgalagadi North, Mr Phillip Khwae who had asked the minister to state the use of the DOSET facilities in Kanye.
He also wanted to know whether any organisation had expressed interest to sublease the facilities, and if so to state which one expressed interest and the intended use of the facilities.
MP Khwae also wanted to know what plans are in place to fully utilise these facilities and realise some income for government in view of the government’s initiative of cost recovery. ENDS
