Church key in transformation

01 Jan 2026

‎The core principles of the church include saving souls, changing lives, and providing direction to those who feel lost, according to Archbishop's Advisor, Bishop Simon Kgaoganang of St. Paul Apostolic Faith Mission.

‎On New Year's Eve in Serowe, the community was uplifted by harmonious songs and heartfelt performances from the Saint Paul Apostolic Faith Mission of Botswana.  The Serowe branch band established a vibrant atmosphere, signalling a hopeful year ahead. Dressed in their church regalia, members gathered to commence crossover service.

Among the congregants was the Minister of Local Government and Traditional Affairs Mr Ketlhalefile Motshegwa. He emphasised the church’s vital role in society, asserting that it fostered community development.

‎“We confront the troubling reality of moral decline within our society. Incidents of gender-based violence, murder and various forms of disorderly conduct are on the rise. We look to the church to assist the government in driving national moral change,” he stated.

‎Mr Motshegwa highlighted the church's capacity to improve society, underlining its crucial influence in shaping the nation. ‎He noted that the government regards the church as a collaborator, offering guidance on national development.

Additionally, he stressed that a revival of foundational values such as Botho, unity, self-reliance, and sufficiency could be achieved through the church, which embodies these ideals.

‎However, he cautioned against the concerning trend of church divisions, reminding congregants to embrace differing viewpoints and avoid splits based on disagreement. ‎He commended the church for its structural development initiatives, demonstrating its commitment to changing community lives through broader support and guidance.

‎Bishop Simon Kgaogano ministered to the congregation, emphasising the need for peace, harmony, and unity within the church.

“As the church, we must ensure these elements, as they will foster growth and advancement. In unity, shared goals can be easily accomplished,” he remarked.
Mr ‎Kgaogano urged congregants to assist wherever possible and to engage in action that supports nation-building.
‎For his part, Archbishop Kgotlaetsile Kgare announced plans to expand the church’s building to accommodate more congregants. He said the expansion aimed to create an inclusive environment for individuals of all backgrounds, including those with disabilities and the elderly facing mobility challenges. BOPA
