17 Dec 2025

A total of 202 cases of stock theft have been recorded in Shashe West constituency over the last five years of which 90 are registered before the courts, 70 completed and 20 are still pending.
The remaining 112 cases are going through various stages of investigation, Minister of Communications and Innovation, Mr David Tshere told Parliament on Tuesday.
Responding on behalf of the Minister for State President, Defence and Security, Minister Tshere said he was not aware of the lack of breakthrough by police in stock theft cases in the constituency which included Jamataka, Shashemooke and surrounding villages.
“What I am aware of is that the police are on the ground on daily basis to tackle the problem of crime, including stock theft,” Mr Tshere said.
Furthermore, he said the police had put up several measures to fight stock theft, among them Operation Kgomokhumo VI which commenced June 1 to August 31, 2023 and Operation Kgomokhumo VIII which ran from April 22 to July 22 last year.
The minister pointed out that district Anti-Stock Theft teams were established in Jamataka, Shashemooke and surrounding areas as well as mephato formed in Shashemooke, Mathangwane, Makobo, Matsitama and Natale villages.
Moreover, the District Anti-Stock Theft team comprising eight officers was allocated a vehicle which is still available to address concerns related to stock theft and the team is currently deployed in the villages of Chadibe, Jamataka, Makobo, Natale, Borolong and Mabesekwa.
Mr Tshere explained that there is a plan to build a new police station in Shashemooke under NDP12 and it is aimed to cover Jamataka and surrounding villages.
The minister was responding to a question by Shashe West MP, Mr Jeremiah Frenzel who asked if the minister was aware of lack of breakthrough by the police on the high rate of stock theft cases in Jamataka, Shashemooke and surrounding villages and the measures being put in place to address the situation.
He also wanted to know when the area would be provided with designated patrol vehicles to curb the high crime rate, if there was a police station planned for the area and when stock theft cases that had been lying dormant for over four to five years in the Shashe West constituency would be disposed.
