The Minister for State President, Defence and Security Mr Moeti Mohwasa says to date, no funds have been invested either domestically or internationally to the Botswana Sovereign Wealth Fund.
Answering a question in Parliament from Kgatleng East MP, Mr Mabuse Pule, Mr Mohwasa said standard global timeline for deal sourcing, due diligence and rigorous investment evaluation ranged from six to 18 months.
Therefore, he said the fund not invested to date should not be of great concern, as it was part of the globally accepted process.
He said the progress regarding the Sovereign Wealth Fund setup phase included operational and organisational development, investment pipeline and seed capital, legislative and policy framework.
Furthermore, he said the Sovereign Wealth Fund was in line with the Global Governance Framework.
The Kgatleng East MP had asked the minister to state how much had been invested in the fund and whether the fund had met strategic objectives in support of economic growth and citizen benefit. ends
