Consultations to upgrade Palapye from village to city status is ongoing.

Speaking at the Lerala Village Extension Team (VET) Christmas party recently, Palapye District Council chairperson, Mr Kabo Ketshogile said the move would bring positive developments to the entire district.

He said there was a possibility that  another council district would be established.

“Villages that are currently being serviced by Palapye District Council will get affected as Palapye gets upgraded to city status,” he said.

On other issues, he urged public service employees stationed in Lerala to continue being united in their pursuit to efficiently and adequately service the public in the village.

Mr Ketshogile further said as the council chairperson, his door was open to the public.

The move, he said would help him to render advice and share pointers on how best to advance the agenda of the ruling party for the betterment of Botswana and Batswana.

He said next year, he would with councillors,  Mr Loeto Tsebenyane of Lerala West and Mr Andrew Supang of Lerala East donate a cow to Lerala VET as a way of appreciating their service in the village.

“Next year, we are going to do things differently, better and make sure that we transform our village,” Mr Ketshogile said.

For his part, Mr Supang applauded the unity of public service employees in Lerala and pledged to continue working with them.

“We all need each other to perform to the best of our abilities and we appreciate you for servicing our parents, teaching our children with patience, love and persevering,” said Mr Supang.

Ms Dorothy Mookodi, Lerala VET chairperson, said this year’s Christmas celebration was about appreciating public service employees.

“You are the ones that ensure that water is flowing, the lights are on, children are taught, there’s law and order, peace and tranquillity, amongst other things in Lerala,”she said.

She lauded public service employees as they worked with dedication behind the scenes to build a better Lerala.

“Its a season of beautiful things, joy, giving. Public servants understand giving better. We give our commitment, patience, time, love, understanding and the list is endless for a better Botswana,” said Ms Mookodi.

“Next year let’s embrace the opportunities and address challenges in a timely manner, with integrity and compassion. There’s nothing we cannot accomplish together and let us carry the light of this season in our everyday dealings,’ she added.

Mr Molemogi Molemogi, whose venue hosted the celebrations, thanked public servants and parastatal workers for their continued support of their business. ENDS
