17 Feb 2014
Shell Oil licensee, Vivo Energy has opened its first filling station in Gabane, which is also the first filling station in the village.
Speaking during the official opening ceremony recently, the filling station owner, Mr Khai Modiagane said he was thankful for the support of the community and Vivo Energy. He said it was not easy to open the filling station, but noted that he had to face the challenge head on in order to succeed.
Among the challenges he encountered, he said, was delays in getting the project up and running, adding that he also encountered challenges when dealing with the land board and financial institutions.
For his part, Vivo Energy Botswana manager, Mr Mojaboswa Sechele explained that the filling station started its operations in January this year. He said the filling station will be serving mainly the Gabane community and other people who will be coming for service at the station.
The area Member of Parliament Mr Mmoloki Raletobana added that the village had few businesses and decried that developments were coming up at a snail pace.
He said the coming of developments in the area brings excitement to the village, adding that Shell Filling Station has already changed the village landscape drastically. Mr Raletobana said they believed that in the coming years, Gabane will not be any different from Gaborone.
He also said that the filling station has already employed 14 locals who are mainly the youth, thus enabling them to sustain their families. ENDS
