Amakhosi FC defeated Tonota FC 2-1 in their own backyard in the Debswana First Division North encounter over the weekend.
The game, which was played at Rutwang grounds in Tonota, produced an enterprising display from both teams as they proved that they were well prepared for the game.
As the high tempo settled down in the first half, it was the visitors who were leading on the score board with a goal from Nkululeko Tagwa who scored in the 38th minute.
With most chances in favour of Tonota FC in the first half, credit must be given to the visitors who did not want to show any weakness in their defence. Tonota FC skipper, Keoagile Kgosietsile caused havoc in Amakhosi defense who in most cases were found wanting.
With the mounting pressure from the host team, Amakhosi`s hope was their goal keeper, Goitsemang Senjoba who dealt very well with high balls that caused a threat to his defence. Kgosietsile continued to pull strings in the striking force through his crosses which became a thorn on the visitor’s defence but one thing that his team lacked was superb finishing touches.
Tonota FC asked more questions and in the 20th minute, they were awarded an indirect free kick and Kemoreng Batisani hit the post resulting in the ball bouncing back into play.
With mounting pressure from Tonota FC, affectionately called ‘Sepondo se a debola’ by their legion of followers , the visitors conceded a penalty in the 30th minute for dangerous play but luck was not on the Tonota side as Kabo Maxala shot wide.
The second half did not produce much excitement but Amakhosi FC slowly gained momentum and most of the deadly scoring opportunities went their way. Amakhosi forced their play in the attack and thanks to a clinical finish by Oarabile Tantshipi who doubled the lead for the visiting side after curling the ball far from Olebile Elias’s reach.
The host finally received their consolation from their Skipper Kgosietsile in the 90th minute who unleashed a grass cutter. Amakhosi head coach, David Tlhowe said the game plan worked well for them despite a number of injuries affecting their central defenders and a striker bought from Tafic who has not played a single game.
