Boko off to Namibia
09 Oct 2025
President Advocate Duma Boko is in Namibia to attend and participate in the second session of the Botswana-Namibia Bi-National Commission (BNC) scheduled for October 10.
A press release from the Office of the President states that the BNC meeting is aimed at deepening cooperation across multiple economic fronts as well as political and social relations through a coordinated implementation of jointly agreed programmes and projects.
The release states that the second session of the BNC would also review progress made in the implementation of commitments made during the inaugural session of the Botswana-Namibia BNC held in Gaborone in September 2022.
It cites among the commitments, the operationalisation of the Botswana Dry Port in Walvis Bay and the Mamuno/Trans-Kalahari One Stop Border Post (OSBP), the use of identity cards as travel documents between the two countries as well as the implementation of the proposed Trans-Kalahari Railway Project.
The communication also highlights that collaboration continued between Botswana and Namibia after the inaugural BNC in critical sectors such as tourism and wildlife conservation, agriculture, livestock and food security, water, environment and climate resilience, defence, security and border management.
While in Namibia, Advocate Boko attended a street naming dedication ceremony in honour of Botswana’s founding president, Sir Seretse Khama in Windhoek, after whom the local municipality has named one of the city’s roads.
The press release says that former president, Lieutenant General Seretse Khama Ian Khama also attended the ceremony and delivered an acceptance speech on behalf of the Khama family.
President Boko is expected to return to Gaborone on Friday. ENDS
