NMG Administrators Botswana has donated P100, 000 to Sedibeng Foundation Centre, an elderly care centre in Kopong.
Speaking during the handing over ceremony on Thursday at Sedibeng Centre in Kopong, NMG Risk Anti Money Laundering Compliance Manager, Ms Karabo Lesokwane said the company was excited to be giving back to the community, and most importantly to Sedibeng centre for the elderly.
She said NMG Administrators was inspired by what Sedibeng Centre was doing in the community, therefore decided to extend a helping hand by funding the centre to the tune of P100, 000.
She was of the view that the money would go a long way in meeting the needs of the centre and afford them to continue caring for the elderly people.
Ms Lesokwane said as a company managing pensioners’ funds they was equally concerned by the welfare and living conditions of the elderly, as some were their clients, being retired public servants.
She said Sedibeng Foundation Centre was playing a crucial role by taking care of the needs of the elders.
“We are thankful for the work being done by the centre and that is why we are giving them a cheque of P100,000 so that they continue the good work”, said Ms Lesokwane.
The Centre’s manager, Ms Abueng Beans said Sedibeng foundation was a non-governmental organisation that offered elderly health care services in Kopong.
She said the centre had registered more than 200 members who were over 65 years old with a few exceptions of those below the pensioners’ age bracket. She added that Sedibeng had outreach programmes, catering for the elderly across the country.
Ms Beans said establishing the centre was a response to the many challenges among them lack of proper healthcare services faced by the elderly members of the community. She said the centre came in handy to attend to their needs by offering free health care checkups, psychological and mental health and regular exercise.
Additionally, Ms Lesokwane said the centre offered adult education to its members to equip them with the ability to read and write.
In her appreciation remarks, one of the elders, Ms Joyce Tubego said they would forever remain thankful to Sedibeng Centre for providing comfort and healing to their ailing bodies.
She appreciated the voluntary work undertaken by Sedibeng workers who continue to offer their services despite little resources.
Ms Tubego said the support from NMG Administrators came at the right time when the centre needed rescue, therefore grateful for the donation.
She added that there was no single day when the centre had failed to accordingly provide them with meals among other voluntary support.
Councillor Mr Khona Rakhudu said the centre was blessed with donors like NMG Administrators who came at the time when there was a need.
He said caring for the elders was a blessing on its own and by giving to the centre, NMG was indirectly giving to the elders and would in turn receive blessings.
Cllr Rakhudu hastened to say that the centre was still awaiting plot allocation and believed NMG Administrators together with other donors would come in handy in building a centre fit for the elderly people. ENDS
