Youth join efforts to revive spirit of self-reliance

A group of 40 youth champions, named: The Revival 40, have joined efforts to mobilise communities across Botswana by selling sweets at P2 each, with the goal to raise P1 million in net proceeds for national revival initiatives.
A press release from The Revival Project, which is a youth driven non-profit making movement, says the recently launched initiative, dubbed: #OneSweetRevives Challenge is meant to re-ignite the national spirit of unity, resilience and self-reliance. “At its heart, The Revival Project is about reviving the spirit of self-reliance that built Botswana’s first schools and communities and adapting it to today’s challenges. It is not political, not partisan, it is a call for every Motswana to be part of building a better future together,” states the release. Instead of waiting for help to build the country’s future, the release explains that The Revival 40 will mobilise communities to stand together and take action, pool resources and tackle challenges directly ‘one step, one challenge, one school at a time’.
“The Revival Project is built on a simple truth that when Batswana move together transformation becomes possible,” says the release.
“The challenge is more than fundraiser. It is a demonstration of the power of collective effort. Every sweet purchased represents a voice for change, a hand lifted in solidarity and a step toward a brighter Botswana,” adds the release.
For the next 30 days, as a first step and act of revival, the release says The Revival 40 will embark in a nationwide campaign channelling support toward communities, beginning with Bokamoso Junior Secondary School.
The school, per the release, is faced with challenges of shortage of resources such as desks, chairs, photocopying machines, books, stalled infrastructure maintenance and insufficient ablution blocks. ENDS
