Walk of Hope (WoH) Botswana has joined efforts with NorthPeak Energy to donate mathematical instrument sets to primary school pupils in Thamaga.
Through the initiative called Project 267, the two organisations would donate mathematical instrument sets to 267 standard six and seven pupils at Monare Primary School in Thamaga.
Speaking at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding aimed to formalise partnership to advance the two organisations' shared Corporate Social Initiatives programmes in Gaborone on Tuesday, NorthPeak Energy deputy director Mr Bakang Motlhalefi stated that they were privileged to join hands with Walk of Hope in implementing the organisation’s Project 267.
Mr Motlhalefi added that their efforts would not be limited to Thamaga only, but would also extend to schools in remote parts of Botswana, where they would provide support such as school shoes and sanitary pads.
So far, NorthPeak has collaborated with WoH on projects at Solomon Dihutso Primary School in Mogoditshane as well as in Serowe, where five schools benefited from the two entities.
“We were impressed by their transparency after their trip to Serowe, as they provided feedback to us their partner on everything accomplished. Their commitment and dedication is something admirable. We couldn't resist becoming officially part of their work and assisting with their new project,” said Mr Motlhalefi, adding that the MoU would be in effect for two years at a financial value that would be announced at a later stage.
Walk of Hope founder Ms Theriso Motsumi-Motsemeng, whose organisation has earned strong reputation for leading school shoes donation drives, expressed gratitude to NorthPeak for coming on board at a critical time for Botswana’s economy.
She revealed that although WoH had managed to donate school shoes to more than 5,000 students in areas such as Maun and some remote villages this year, the organisation continued to face financial challenges which hindered the achievement of some of their objectives.
She further expressed hope that through NorthPeak’s sponsorship, WoH would be able to sustain initiatives such as the School Drive Campaign for school shoes, the Pad Girl Child project supplying sanitary pads to female students, and others.
She also highlighted plans to assist with health initiatives, including diabetes and eyesight testing for standard seven pupils before their final examinations, in collaboration with Eyelight Optometrists and the Ministry of Health. ENDS
