Letlhakeng West MP, Mr Ngaka Ngaka has welcomed government’s decision to take action against unscrupulous contractors who fail to deliver projects on time and within budget.
He said the delisting of such companies and subsequent barring from tendering for public projects was a welcome development, saying however, the company directors should also be blacklisted. MP Ngaka said he welcomed the establishment of the Project Management Office which will be responsible for managing public projects.
He said ISPAAD beneficiaries should be trained on modern forms of farming saying there was no use in government offering fertilisers yet the public did not know how to use them. Mr Ngaka called for supervision when fields were measured after planting.
The Letlhakeng West legislator said he was concerned about the rate of development in his constituency saying people in Sesung and Tsetseng were still to be connected to the national grid while the road to Khutse Game Reserve should be tarred to at least Kaudwane.
For his part, Chobe MP, Mr Gibson Nshimwe said his region for the first time in the history of the country became number three in Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE). He however said the standard of results at junior secondary was very poor.
MP Nshimwe said he was disturbed by infrastructure developments in Pandamatenga saying water has been diverted towards Zimbabwe.
He said his area gets power from Namibia, Zimbabwe and Zambia and whenever they experience outages, they are left in the lurch not knowing the reasons or who to call. He further said there are no sporting facilities in the area to which the Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Mr Shaw Kgathi said Kasane has been marked for a construction of a stadium.
Mr Nshimwe said social welfare should focus on how to assist people to graduate saying there are people who have been receiving government packages for many years without hope of graduating from poverty. He said the P581 million allocated to Ipelegeng could be used to create permanent jobs. ENDS
