Palapye settlement name plates to relocate
12 Feb 2014
Discussions are ongoing between the Ministry of Transport and Communications and Palapye local authorities on the extent of the new village boundaries for the erection of signs at the commencement of the defined village or settlement planning parameters.
Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Nonofo Molefhi told Parliament on Tuesday, February 11 that Palapye settlement name plates would be relocated by February 14 and that other signs elsewhere in the country would be relocated progressively as discussions with the respective jurisdictions are concluded.
Mr Molefhi said the relocation of misplaced directional signs involved consultations with a lot of stakeholders. He said Palapye in particular had extended its boundaries due to developments and to date road signs 60km/hr or 80km/hr and the village name fell well within the new boundaries.
He said the scenario was not unique only to Palapye, noting that a lot more settlements had out grown the old boundaries and as such the signs in these settlements had also to be relocated.
The minister was responding to a question asked by Member of Parliament for Palapye, Mr Moiseraele Goya who wanted to know if the minister was aware that he once stated that he would act to relocate directional signs in Palapye and other parts of the country, but to date nothing has been done.
He also asked when will the ministry carry out this exercise. ENDS
