DRC market to boost BMC revenue

12 Jun 2025

The Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) has taken a significant step in its strategy to boost export revenues, dispatching its first beef samples to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as part of a newly signed P55 351 830 export agreement.

This marks a return to a market that BMC previously served, as highlighted by President Advocate Duma Boko’s announcement promoting the initiative. A statement from BMC says the sample shipment includes various products such as stewed steak with gravy, corned beef, corned meat, and pet food.

The introduction of these samples is considered an essential milestone, paving the way for the first full order under the long-term agreement. BMC aims not only to revitalise its export efforts to the DRC but also to broaden its reach in premium African markets, the statement says.

“Currently, the commission is exploring additional opportunities in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region and West Africa, with Ghana, Angola, and Nigeria being identified as prime targets.”

The statement suggests that the agreement underscores the quality and competitiveness of Botswana’s beef and represents a hopeful future for BMC, local cattle farmers and the agricultural economy at large.  Although the specific tonnage for the first shipment is yet to be confirmed, BMC is preparing for a timely and high-quality delivery, says the statement. BMC is dedicated to providing world-class beef products, reinforcing Botswana’s position as a key exporter of premium beef across Africa and beyond.
