Residents decry dilapidated road
09 Jun 2025
Gumare residents have expressed growing concern over the deteriorating condition of Nokaneg-Gumare Road, highlighting safety risks and the lack of progress on a much-delayed infrastructure project.
The issue was discussed during a recent kgotla meeting addresed by Member of Parliament for Ngami, Mr Philemon Aaron. The Village Development Committee representative, Ms Keatlaretse Gabatsholwe said the road, which had been under construction for several years, remained in a poor state, posing dangers to motorists and vehicles alike.
Ms Gabatsholwe also raised concerns about healthcare facilities, saying that Gumare Primary Hospital was under-resourced and unable to adequately serve residents and surrounding villages. She reminded the gathering that government had promised to construct a new hospital in Gumare, promises that have yet to be realised. She emphasised that residents deserved a well-equipped hospital with specialists.
Addressing the residents concerns, MP Aaron explained said the current administration had suspended all projects initiated under the Development Manager Model, which was currently under review. As a result, the Nokaneng-Gumare road project had been put on hold, leaving no clear timeline for its future.
He further outlined ongoing projects funded through the Constituency Community Projects (, including the extension of Social and Community Development offices in Gumare South, the drilling of a borehole at Xhekedao and the gravelling of internal roads. MP Aaron urged residents to support the new approach, saying CCP should prioritise large-scale projects with lasting community impact. ENDS
