MoH fails to absorb retired nurses

Parliament has been informed that due to non-availability of vacant posts in the nursing cadre, the Ministry of Health has not absorbed any of the retired Batswana nurses.

The Minister of Health, Dr John Seakgosing said in the past two years, 95 Batswana nurses who took early retirement had applied to be absorbed back in to the civil service. He said there were 210 expatriate nurses between the ages of 45 to 60 employed by the ministry in various clinics and hospitals.

Answering a parliamentary question , Dr Seakgosing said there were 1 126 Batswana nurses between the ages of 45 to 60 currently employed by the ministry in various clinics and hospitals.

The minister was responding to a question from the Member of Parliament for Tonota North, Mr Fidelis Molao who had asked him to state the number of expatriate nurses between the ages of 45 to 60 who are currently employed by the ministry in various clinics and hospitals, as well as the number of Batswana in the same category.

MP Molao also wanted to know the number of Batswana nurses who took early retirement and have since applied to be absorbed back in to the civil service in the past two years and those that have been absorbed as well as those that are still awaiting absorption. Ends
