Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) and Debswana on Wednesday have signed a Memorandum of Agreement for the acquisitionof renewable energy from BPC.

Debswana Managing Director, Mr Andrew Motsomi said the agreement was a welcome development saying what was once a dream, was now a reality.

He said the company wanted to be carbon neutral by 2030, adding that their operations would no longer add harmful emissions to the environment.

“We are here to take a big step in greening our diamonds,” he noted, explaining that this was part of their promise to do business in a way that protected the planet.

Botswana Power Corporation Chief Executive Officer, Mr David Kgoboko, welcomed the partnership and said it supported the country’s long-term goals.

This agreement is not just about electricity it’s about powering Botswana to prosperity,” he said.

He mentioned that BPC was committed to bringing clean, reliable energy to support national development.

The two parties said this agreement signing was celebrated as a major achievement in Botswana’s journey to use more renewable energy and become a leader in sustainable development. ENDS
