WUC injects P14m in upgrading pump stations

27 May 2025

Water Utilities Corporation recently awarded a P14 million project towards upgrading two pump stations in Jwaneng and another in Sese to meet emerging water demands resultIing from the increasing population of the two places. The project is expected to take nine months to complete.

“You will note that Jwaneng Water Works Tower one, Tower two and Sese pump stations, originally built in the mid-1980s, are facing challenges in keeping up with the rising water demands caused by growing population of Jwaneng township and Sese. To address this, the Water Utilities Corporation is undertaking an upgrade of these pump stations, aiming to enhance their efficiency and reliability to effectively meet the current water demands,” Jwaneng mayor, Mr Ronica Ntsimako said at the opening of a full council session yesterday.

He noted that the project was expected to improve the efficiency of the water supply system for the Jwaneng-Sese scheme. He urged residents to take advantage of the ongoing three-month Debt Amnesty campaign offered by WUC, which runs until June 30. He encouraged residents to familiarise themselves with the guidelines and avoid being disconnected.

Mr Ntsimako noted that the council leadership was engaging with the Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC) to develop housing units at Unit 8 and Unit 5 in order to address accommodation shortage in the township. He stated that discussions on possible land servicing of Unit 9 and Unit 10 were underway. ENDS
