JTC prioritises facilities maintenance
27 May 2025
Jwaneng Town Council (JTC) has set aside P1.8 million from this year’s financial budget towards the maintenance of its key facilities to restore their functionality.
The maintenance works, which would vary for each facility, will include staff houses, the civic centre, parks depot, bus rank and old community hall ablution blocks, among others.
“Many of our council facilities are in not so good condition. For far too long, they have gone without the comprehensive maintenance they so urgently require, primarily due to economic and financial limitations. This situation has not only impacted their usability and comfort but has also led to inefficiencies such as high utility costs stemming from issues like water leakages,” Jwaneng mayor, Mr Ronica Ntsimako told a full council meeting yesterday.
He said there is the need to expedite the maintenance works across the various council facilities, while also ensuring that deadlines were adequately met. He said the council was committed to restoring the public facilities through effective and timely delivery of services to the communities.
“These efforts mark a new dawn of renewed hope and investment in our infrastructure. We are committed to proactively restoring and upgrading public assets to meet modern standards through a focused, timely and results-driven approach,” he noted.
However, he acknowledged that a lot more of the council’s facilities needed maintenance, which required more budget allocations. Subsequently, he said that plans were underway to find sustainable solutions through partnerships and additional support from stakeholders. Additionally, Mr Ntsimako said their buildings infrastructure projects were making headway, despite challenges.
He noted that the construction of craft industry stalls, undertaken through the Constituency Community Projects (CCP) experienced some delays caused by rains during the initial stages. He further added that plans were underway to catch up with the project schedule to ultimately facilitate the informal sector.
“Our optimism remains strong that once completed, this initiative will not only provide safe and formalised trading spaces for our hardworking entrepreneurs, more especially women, youth and the differently-abled, but will also stimulate local economic activity and uplift livelihoods,” he said.
Furthermore, he noted that while the construction of an LA2 staff house for Jwana Primary School was at completion stage under the backlog eradication programme, another similar project for Dinonyane Primary School was progressing well and within schedule. ENDS
