Eight students receive toiletry

09 Feb 2014

Head Mountain of God Apostolic Church in Zion in Matobo has donated toiletry buckets to eight students from different schools in the Tutume Sub-district.

Speaking during the handing over ceremony, Kgosi Oteng Matobo said toiletry was one of the necessities that someone could not live without.

He said the beneficiaries would now walk around with some dignity, knowing that they had the appropriate lotions to apply when going to school. He said he appreciated the generosity of the church and those who made the day a success.

He also urged other churches to continue the generosity spirit and assist the less privileged. He encouraged all churches in Botswana to work together to enable the nation to realise Vision 2016 and achieve the Millennium Development Goals.

The Ministry of Health used the day to educate members of the Head Mountain of God Apostolic Church in Zion about the dangers of cancer, sugar diabetes, tuberculosis and high blood pressure. Testing for HIV took place at the ceremony.

Senior health education assistant of Nswazwi clinic, Ms Phazha Ntini, urged church members to disseminate the information to other people. Ms Ntini said there were many different forms of cancer and their manifestation is a growth of cells and tissues, which differ in various aspects from the surrounding tissue.

Ms Ntini said the earlier cancer is diagnosed and treated, the better the chance of it being cured, adding that some types of cancer such as those of the skin, breast, mouth, testicles, prostate, and rectum may be detected by routine self-exam or other screening measures before the symptoms become serious.

“Most cases of cancer are detected and diagnosed after a tumor can be felt or when other symptoms develop,” she said.

For her part, Miss Head Mountain of God Apostolic Church in Zion of North, Kesego Ernest, said she initiated the idea and sold it to church members and the community to assist the needy. ENDS
