Nortex Textiles is committed to creating more than 200 new jobs for Batswana.
Presenting a business pitch to the Minister of Trade and Entrepreneurship, Mr Tiroeaone Ntsima on Friday, Nortex Textiles Botswana, Technical Director, Mr Rachit Josh said the company aimed to invest in the state of the art cotton yarn spinning in Botswana.
He said the aim of the yarn plant was to make sure raw materials were readily available for the production of quality towels. Mr Josh said Botswana imported close to P15 million-worth of yarn every month, arguing that a local yarn plant would bring in more business for Batswana.
“The local production will refrain capital from living the country, hence creating more opportunities for locals. The yarn plant project costs P200 million and it is capable of creating 200 new jobs for Batswana,” said Mr Josh.
He further said the opportunity to export yarn and develop other fabric manufacturing textiles such as denim, sheeting and shirting could be made possible by the yarn plant. Mr Josh said yarn production plant was capable of boosting Botswana’s manufacturing and cotton farming sector.
He said there could also be an increased income for farmers in rural communities and further underscored that Nortex Textiles was committed to delivering good quality towels to different stakeholders.
Mr Josh said shortage of space and access to raw materials were some of the major factors limiting the existence of the company. He said the company needed land in order to be able to carry out its expansion mandate, therefore appealing with the minister to assist in securing land closer to the existing establishment.
Mr Josh said for the 35 years of its existence, Nortex Textiles had never failed in any project they have channeled their energy towards, a clear indicator that the expansion they were looking into was feasible. When responding, Mr Ntsima said the business pitch was impressive considering that it had the potential to create more jobs and bring more opportunities for Batswana.
He assured the company that the ministry would look into the proposal and give feedback. The minister also applauded the company for the wonderful job it was doing in creating employment for Batswana. He also advised the company to work towards paying their employees the P4 000 minimum monthly living wage. ENDS
