Government to engage private garages

03 Feb 2014

Ministries will soon engage private garages to maintain their vehicles.

Addressing a kgotla meeting at Mookane in the Mahalapye Sub-district recently, Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Nonofo Molefhi said each ministry would choose reliable private garages to maintain its vehicle while his ministry would facilitate the payment processes. Mr Molefhi said the outsourcing move would not only benefit big garages as some portion would be reserved for small reliable garages.

A Mookane resident, Mr Morris Motsopa had raised a concern about vehicles that crowded at Central Transport Organization (CTO) depots. Mr Molefhi also explained that vehicle purchasing and supplies regulations did not allow government to buy one particular vehicle brand because the practice could breed corruption.

He said some of the vehicles at CTO depots were waiting for spare parts as some were difficult to find. In other cases, vehicles that crowded CTO depots were those on which shoddy maintenance jobs were done by garages; and there were pending issues with concerned parties. He warned that stern action would be taken against people who steal vehicle spares at CTO depots. ENDS
