MPs unveil plans for Molepolole

Members of Parliament (MPs) for Molepolole North and South constituencies have vowed to deliver promises they made to the electorate.
The two MPs held a joint kgotla meeting in Molepolole on Tuesday where they laid down plans for the duration of their reign.
Mr Shima Monageng, MP for Molepolole South, acknowledged that they inherited empty coffers when they ascended to power but said they would not use that as an excuse but would instead work hard to ensure the economy recovered. He further said they would keep their promises as outlined in their election manifesto.
The Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) won the elections last year and Mr Monageng said as government, they should be judged on their promises. The MP said Batswana wanted to see a different type of leadership which would make a difference in their lives and abhored corruption.
MP Monageng promised to work together with MP Arafat Khan of Molepolole North to ensure developments earmarked for the village were undertaken, adding they would speak with one voice in parliament.
For his part, Mr Khan said addressing the non-availability of potable water in the village remained a burning issue, hence they had made it their priority. He said two projects, one to improve water reticulation and another one for rehabilitation of the water distribution network would be undertaken in the next financial year.
In the interim, he said he had engaged a private company to assist with a borehole at Scottish Livingstone Hospital to help alleviate water shortages.
Mr Khan further said the Molepolole-Gaborone highway should be expanded into a dual carriageway to cope with the volume of traffic, adding that even within the village, Molepolole was grappling with high traffic volumes due to an inadequate network of internal roads.
He said in addition, there would be another road linking Molepolole to the Molepolole-Letlhakeng highway, and added that the road in question would help ease traffic and provide easy and faster access to other areas such as Thebephatshwa airbase.
Mr Khan said he was concerned about high levels of unemployment in Molepolole and that he had since met with some potential investors who had shown interest to set up businesses in the village.
He further said any major project undertaken in the village should benefit the residents in the form of employment and sub-contracts. The MP used the opportunity to present his roadmap and he promised the residents that he would serve them diligently. ENDS
