Gaolathe calls on all to fight GBV

21 Jan 2025

Acting President Mr Ndaba Gaolathe has called on dikgosi to play a role in the fight against gender-based violence (GBV).

Speaking at the 5th Ntlo ya Dikgosi capacity building workshop in Palapye today, Mr Gaolathe said government could not win the battle against GBV alone and urged all to take a part.

He called on dikgosi as custodians of tradition to play a role in uniting the nation. He also said government recognised them as key stakeholders in nation building.

Furthermore, Mr Gaolathe informed dikgosi that government was faced with a myriad of challenges such as lack of funds. As such, he said some of the projects and initiatives that government had wished to implement would be affected.

However, he was optimistic that the economy would recover as government was doing everything possible to ensure that the economy stabilised. He asked for patience as government made efforts to return the country to financial stability.  He said some of the state owned enterprises must be looked into, as they were not functional.

Ntlo ya Dikgosi chairperson, Kgosi Malope II of Bangwaketse said there was need for government and Ntlo ya Dikgosi to work together for the development of this country. He therefore proposed a joint retreat of government and Ntlo ya Dikgosi so that they could come up with initiatives they could collaborate on for the development of the country.

Members of Ntlo ya Dikgosi are in Palapye for a capacity building workshop, during which they will be trained on how to craft questions and motions, emotional intelligence, protocol and etiquette. They will also visit the Botswana International University of Science and Technology, Selebi Phikwe Citrus Project and Morupule Coal Mine, among others.

Kgosi Malope said the excursions would accord dikgosi the opportunity to appreciate projects geared toward uplifting the nation. ENDS
