06 Feb 2013
Makaleng Village Development Committee (VDC) brick moulding project is thriving and will therefore improve livelihoods of villagers.
The project is intended to improve the living standards of the entire community through employment creation.
A member of the committee, which runs the project, Ms Goitshasiwang Motshabi said the VDC started the project in September 2010 and was funded to the tune of P20 000.
She said the project was progressing well and that seven brick moulders had been employed.
Ms Motshabi said the project enabled residents to purchase bricks produced locally at a reasonable price.
She said as the committee, they worked together to ensure the success of the project, adding that the objective of the poverty eradication initiative was to assist the entire community.
She said they also encouraged those benefiting from the project to establish backyard gardens at their residential places.
She added that the objective was to make them graduate from abject poverty so that the project could assist others.
A member of the committee, Ms Bazibi Nakedi said the project was managed by a voluntary board which included the village kgosi, area councillor, VDC members and some members of the community.
She said the project was monitored weekly by the social welfare officer and the community development officer.
However, like any other project, the Makaleng brick moulding project was faced with challenges such as lack of transport and shortage of funds. ENDS
