Government intends to enhance tourism
08 Jan 2025
Government will put more effort in enhancing the tourism sector as it has the potential to grow the economy.
Francistown South MP, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi said this during a kgotla meeting at Philip Matante ward in Francistown Block 2 on Tuesday.
To maximise economic benefit from the sector, he said government had taken a deliberate decicion to augment it.
Mr Mmolotsi, who is also minister of Environment and Tourism, informed residents that government had reviewed as well as reversed some of the laws, which had loopholes and needed amendments.
He said, under the Societies Act, government had taken a decision to allow churches to register with 20 people compared to 150 as was initially required by the law in the past.
He also indicated that the Public Service Act, which governs public service, had been amended to allow the Bargaining Council to be reinstated to address conditions of service for public servants.
Mr Mmolotsi further said government had also reviewed the laws dealing with money laundering so that they complied with international laws to avoid issues of grey and black listing.
Meanwhile, the Franscistown South legislator assured residents that government would keep its promises, which were made as and when the economy improved.
The residence applauded their MP for the update.
However, they raised some grievances noting delays in services they got from some government departments. ENDS
