MP urges residents to revive VETs
26 Jan 2014
Residents of Gumare have been advised to revive the Village Extension Teams (VETs) to help in the development of their village.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ngami, Mr Taolo Habano said during a kgotla meeting on January 23 that it was important to revive the teams because some of the development issues needed their attention.
MP Habano cited as an example, the Etsha 6 VET, which he said was doing a good job. He said VETs serves as the government of the village, therefore the Village Development Committees (VDCs) had to liaise with other stakeholders to make this work.
On other issues, MP Habano said the Nokaneng/Shakawe road was being handled by the department of roads for maintenance. He also said the Gumare Primary Hospital had been included in the National Development Plan (NDP) 10 but due to financial constraints, it would only be considered when funds were available.
The MP further said the Makalamabedi quarantine infrastructure had been upgraded and so far over 9 000 cattle had been exported to Zimbabwe.
He urged farmers to make sure that their cattle crush was in good condition and also condemned those who stole the poles for the crush, saying such act was unacceptable.
One of the villagers, Mr Odirile Moonjwa thanked the MP for the responses and he urged fellow residents to come up with a plan of what can be done to bring the crush into a good condition. The area councillor, Mr Morulaganyi Letshabamang applauded the MP for taking his time to come and give them feedback.
Cllr Letshabamang said that in his area, the village is growing with some residents having already built themselves houses. However he said the problem was that electricity and water services were difficult for them to access. ENDS
