Budget constraints delay fleet maintenance
23 Jan 2014
Mahalapye Central Transport Organisation's (CTO) works superintendent, Mr Sephiri Molefi has admitted that there are many government boarded vehicles at the organisation's workshop in the village.
Answering a question from the Assistant minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso during a tour of her constituency, Mr Molefi said budgetary constraints prevented the organisation from maintaining the fleet.
He said in some cases parts for some of the vehicles had to be ordered from outside the country, which contributed to vehicles taking longer at the workshop. Mr Molefi also explained that sometime vehicles were brought for routine service, but the mechanics’ found faults that could endanger the lives of the users hence they would keep the vehicles for some
He also explained that most departments had old fleet which was prone to frequent breakdowns. Ms Tshireletso asked Mr Molefi that his organisation should try and expedite work fleet from the rural areas as productivity in those areas tended to be lower while the vehicles remained at CTO. ENDS
